While the ICRU# 21 protocol is straight forward, the sequence and practical methods to apply the various correction factors. A computer driven 0.1cc micro chamber is used to measure ionization. Allowance can be made for a displacement correction at the time of data acquisition or analysis. Virtual source distance adjustment and divergency corrections may be made in the Rp (practical range) calculation. The appropriate corrections for Ce and perturbation (Pwg) are used in the conversion of ionization to relative dose. The resultant depth dose curves can be overlayed on the ionization curves as a means of visual comparison. The results obtained by solid state detectors and film dosimetry methods are compared with the software converted ionization data.
